The Sid Fleischman Award Presentation to Bill Konigsberg

The Sid Fleischman Humor Award is for authors whose work exemplifies the excellence of writing in the genre of humor. The SCBWI established the award to honor humorous work, so often overlooked in children’s literature by other award committees.

This award was created to honor, as Lin shares, Sid's "life-long love and mastery of the art of humor."

This year, Bill Konigsberg gets the 2014 Sid Fleischman award for his YA novel, "Openly Straight."

Bill accepts his award, killing the acceptance speech. We're all rolling with laughter, from his suggestions of what else to say to Judy Blume (instead of "your book changed my life") and the family arguments he has about who is "the funniest Konigsberg."

Ultimately, his speech is like his book - funny and touching.

Congratulations, Bill!
